Aman Aheer
Through a combination of abstract, spatial, and figurative
elements, Aman Aheer speaks to the often divisive social dynamics that
structure our world. Aman’s work explores sensation, honing on uniquely
defined feelings that exist between seemingly opposed experiences: power
and submission, pleasure and discomfort, enthusiasm and acquiescence.
In Aman’s work, we can discover a new emotional vocabulary to think
about social and intimate relationships.
Item Number specifically examine the orientation of bodies in space.
Drawing on personal memory, Headstand depicts a figure positioned upside
down in a yogic pose, their featureless face bright red. The piece
exemplifies the tension between the figure’s ability to hold the pose
and the potential discomfort of the posture. Building on an existing
body of work that examines positions of prostration and submission, the
painting explores the simultaneous pride in inhabiting a form, alongside
a resistance to the external expectation to hold it.
