SHIVY GALTERE'S practice examines larger questions of self-care and compassion, through lovingly soft but sharp self portraits, Galtere's paintings exude warmth and self-love. Drawing on her on career in fashion, in "Namaste," Galtere playfully examines the current state of consumer culture, where South Asianness is as much a marketing gimmick as an identity. But even when engaging in this gentle critique, her rendering of the self radiates sensuality and comfort.
SHIVY GALTERE was born in London, UK and after 6 years in Brooklyn, NY now resides in Los Angeles. Her work references intimate self portraiture, exploring themes of identity and grief. She has recently started exploring her struggles with brand culture, the wellness industry and digital space. Her practice has expanded from acrylic to large scale oil painting.
